No Hugs Till Saturday
by Julie Downing is a story about a young dragon named Felix and his mother. Everyone loves a hug and this book is full of them. This story is also an excellent lesson in learning that there are always consequences when you break a rule.Felix is having fun throwing his ball in the house. Mother reminds him of the rule; "No playing ball in the house". Felix ignores his mother's warning and a broken vase is the result of his bad behavior. Mother takes the ball and sends Felix to his room. Felix is furious at his mother. He declares that there will be "no hugs till Saturday".
Felix begins to soften when he realizes that he needs his mother's hugs as much as she needs to give them. The story ends with a whole lot of hugging and love.
This is a wonderful book to share with young children. It demonstrates that there are consequences for bad behavior but that does not diminish a mother's love. This book could be used in a discussion on rules and the need to have them.
