A Very Stinky Dinosaur

Gorgonzola, by Margie Palatini, is the story about a dinosaur with some serious hygiene problems. He had a bad case of D.O. - dinosaur odor.

Gorgonzola had no idea that the real reason everyone ran off in such a hurry was not because they were frightened. It was because he smelled "so doggone awful."

One day a brave little bird confronted Gorgonzola about his major dinosaur odor problem. Gorgonzola explained that he was an orphaned egg and never had anyone to teach him about hygiene.

The bird agreed to help Gorgonzola clean up his act. He brushed his teeth, flossed and rinsed with some mouthwash. He scrubbed himself from head to toe with soap and water. He applied some dusting powder and plenty of lotion. He was a new dinosaur. The bird told Gorgonzola that he would have to take a bath and brush his teeth everyday if he wanted to be her friend. He agreed.

Gorgonzola was happy to be the first dinosaur to be declared "ex-stink".

Children will love this story that deals with a sensitive subject in a humorous manner. It is a great book to use in a health and hygiene unit. The illustrations are colorful and add to the humor of the story. Dinosaurs are always popular with kids. Thumbs up!
